1782 -- Hartford, Probate #773: John Cadwell, 1 will, 1 inventory. In the Name of God Amen I John Cadwell of Hartford in the County of Hartford & State of Connecticutt in New England being weak of body but of Sound Disposing mind and memory do Make and ordain this my Last will and Testament. Principally I Commit my Soul to God In hopes of the free forgiveness of all my Sins Through the merits and Blood of the Redeemer and my Body to a Comely Christian Burial in hopes of a glorious Resurrection at the Last day and as to the worldly Interests God hath given me I dispose of in manner following my Debts & funeral Charges being first paid -- Imprimis I give to my beloved wife Hepzibah Cadwell the Improvements of one third part of my Dwelling house where I now Live viz on the North part of the Same and also the Improvements of one third part of all my Improvable Estate with Liberty to Cut her firewood in any of my woodLand so far as She Shall need for her own fire without making havock of the same so Long as She Shall Remain my widow-- Item I give & bequeath to my son John Cadwell the Dwelling house where I now Live his paying my Just Debts and the Legacies hereafter given. Item I give & bequeath to my Son David Cadwell the Dwelling house across the way from the house above mentioned where David Vibbert now Lives. Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Susannah Risley forty Shillings Lawfull money to be paid by my Executor hereinafter to be named. Item I give & bequeath to my Daughter Eunice Cadwell the Sum of Thirty pounds Lawfull money to be paid by my Executor Item I give & bequeath to my Daughter Esther Cadwell the sum of Thirty pounds Lawfull money to be paid by my Executor Item I give & bequeath to my Daughter Nabbe Cadwell the sum of Thirty pounds Lawfull money to be paid by my Executor Item I give & bequeath to my Daughter Ann Cadwell the sum of thirty Pounds Lawfull money to be paid by my Executor Item I give and bequeath to my son John Cadwell all the money & obligations I now have In my possession or Shall have at the time of my Decease to Enable him to pay the Debts due from my Estate & the Legacies above mentioned Further my will is that what shall be wanting in money and obligations to pay the Debts and Legacies herein given shall be paid the one half out of what is given to my Son John Cadwell & the other half part of what is given to my son David Cadwell. Further my will is that my Daughters Eunice Cadwell, Esther Cadwell, Nabbe Cadwell & Ann Cadwell Shall Remain if they see fit at the house which I now Live or that given in this will to my son David Cadwell and Shall have their support from my Estate Except what they can do to support themselves until they shall arrive to Eighteen years of Age. Item I give and bequeath to my two sons John Cadwell and David Cadwell all my Estate both real & personal not before mentioned in this will to be equally divided between them. Item I do appoint my son John Cadwell to be Executor to this my Last will & Testament.
